What is EMSELLA™
How does it Work?
EMSELLA™, also known as the Chair or Throne utilizes HIFEM: High Intensity Focused Electromagnetic Technology.
When you sit on this non-invasive device, fully clothed, it uses focused electromagnetic pulses causing complex pain free supra-maximal pelvic floor muscle contractions.
One treatment session is equal to 11,500 super Kegal exercises.
The Result: A significant strengthening of the pelvic musculature and pelvic floor, resulting in reduced urinary leakage, dribbles, waking up through the night and improved sexual function for both men and women.

About Urinary Incontinence:
Urinary Incontinence is defined as the involuntary leakage of urine. This might be a result of weak pelvic floor muscles since pelvic floor muscles play an important role in supporting pelvic organs and controlling continence.
There are three types of urinary incontinence:
- Stress incontinence: is when there is exerted pressure on the bladder causing leakage. This can be caused by coughing, laughing, sneezing or exercising.
- Urge: is the sudden, intense urge to urinate frequently.
- Mixed incontinence: is a combination of both stress and urge incontinence.
Physiological changes can contribute to the development of urinary incontinence; changes such as vaginal delivery, menopause, and aging can decondition the pelvic floor muscles. In order to improve symptoms, it is important to strengthen these muscles. Possible ways to improve your condition may include lifestyle changes and Kegal exercises.

EMSELLA™ treatment is NOT covered by OHIP. Some private insurers or health service plans do cover HIFEM / EMSELLA™ treatment. Each persons’ plan is unique and we always suggest you discuss EMSELLA™ coverage with your insurer.

EMSELLA™ FAQ’s
1) What is the EMSELLA™ Machine?
The EMSELLA™ Machine is a non-invasive device or chair that uses HIFEM (High Intensity Focused Electromagnetic) waves to stimulate the pelvic floor muscles. It is designed to treat all forms of pelvic floor dysfunction including urinary incontinence, urinary urgency and frequency (especially at night), as well as sexual dysfunction for both men and women.
2) Is the EMSELLA™ chair safe?
Yes, the EMSELLA™ chair is safe. The device is FDA and Health Canada approved. The treatments are non-invasive and do not involve any surgery, injections or internal manipulation. Clinical trials have demonstrated the EMSELLA™ chair to be extremely safe and effective.
3) Do I need to wear something special to use the EMSELLA™ chair?
NO. You keep the clothes you arrived in on throughout your entire treatment.
4) How long are the sessions and how many treatments to I need?
The sessions are 28 minutes long. A full treatment consists of 2 treatments per week for 3 weeks for a total of 6 sessions
5) How long do the beneficial effects of EMSELLA™ last?
The effects of a full course of EMSELLA™ can last for months or years. Most patients report substantial improvement in pelvic health, bladder control and sexual satisfaction. Improvement occurs over time with each treatment session and optimal results are typically achieved by 6 weeks post treatment protocol.
6) Is there any hands-on therapy with the EMSELLA™ chair?
NO. You will sit on the EMSELLA™ chair fully clothed and let the HIFEM waves do all the work! Treatments are completely pain free. Most clients describe a tingling/pulsation sensation that is not uncomfortable in any way.
7) Who should NOT use the EMSELLA™ chair?
If you have a hip replacement, a pacemaker, a copper IUD, are pregnant or have had recent surgery then you should not have treatment on the EMSELLA™ chair.
8) How soon after pregnancy or surgery can I use the EMSELLA™ chair?
The recommendations advise that you wait 4 months after pregnancy or surgery to book your sessions on the EMSELLA™ device.
9) Can I use the EMSELLA™ chair if I have a pessary device?
Yes, you can use the EMSELLA™ chair with a pessary and it does not need to be removed during treatments.
10) Can men use EMSELLA™?
Yes. Like women, many men suffer from frequently peeing at night and the urge to pee. The EMSELLA™ chair is approved to both men and women. Men also who suffer after prostatic treatments or surgery with urinary frequency, incontinence or erectile dysfunction can benefit from a healthy pelvic floor and the EMSELLA™ chair.
11) Can EMSELLA™ help me sexually?
Pelvic health and Kegel exercises have shown to improve women’s sexual pleasure and help men with erectile dysfunctions. These results are a pleasant “side effect” of EMSELLA™ treatments and we now offer a treatment protocol specifically to improve sexual health!
12) Can I have EMSELLA™ treatments when I am menstruating?
We advise to have your sessions on the EMSELLA™ chair before or after your menstrual cycle is complete.
13) How well does the EMSELLA™ chair work?
Studies have demonstrated that 95% of patients have significant improvement that lasts over 6 months. Over 75% of clients reduced or eliminated the use of pads and reported significantly improved sexual health.
14) Is the EMSELLA™ chair covered by OHIP? Can I claim my treatment on my tax returns?EMSELLA™ treatments are NOT covered by OHIP. Some private insurance policies may cover part of the cost.
